Post Internship Assessment

I would like to start off my post-internship assessment stating that this has been my favorite internship by far. I have learned so much and will be taking a lot of valuable information and lessons with me.

All throughout college, I didn’t know if I was on the right track and after a few internships, I started to feel like I’d never find a career that would fulfill me. Then, I interned at The Emerald. It finally made me realize how people could be excited about going to work. I’ve never seen myself and who I want to become so much in a company. I aligned so well with the companies values and vision.

For the first time, I was given the full responsibility of communicating with partners and members. This is where I also learned to always respond to emails, even if it’s just acknowledging that you’ve received it. My design skills have improved so much and I was taught techniques on different design programs. I pushed myself to align with the companies style while creating something unique. I then took these skills into my personal life and have created fun design graphics for my own use. I also broaden my marketing and social media skills by learning how to navigate websites such as Planoly and Mailchimp.

The internship itself was flexible and I was able to attend events they hosted where I participated in my first elevator pitch, enjoyed a yoga class, learned social media tricks and helpful info. about finances. I learned the benefit of open and honest communication, even when discussing “touch-ey” topics with a boss. I stepped outside my comfort zone when I hosted a pop-up table at a partner’s business. I also felt very involved in every decision the company made, was included in important meetings and never felt like “an intern” but an important asset of the team.

I was a little bummed that the hours I worked at home weren’t counted in my log because I did spend a lot of time working on things when I wasn’t physically in the office. Although, I realize that is something that will always come with social media work. Luckily, I never minded it because I genuinely enjoyed doing the work.

I am very happy I was apart of The Emerald team and thoroughly enjoyed my experience and every day I was in the office.
